In Young Adult, a fiction writer, Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron), has just finalized her divorce and is heading back to her hometown in Minnesota. When she reconnects with her ex, Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson), she wonders if they can rekindle the relationship they use to have in high school. The problem? Her ex is married with children! Ending a long term relationship can cause you to start remincising about past loves. Bumping into an ex after breaking up with your partner can cause you to think fate is at play. Be careful! Here’s when you should rethink those thoughts:
1. He’s happily married: This should be an obvious one, but you would be surprised. Even though you want to give the relationship another try, it’s probably not worth breaking up a happy home.
2. He shows no interest: If you’re doing all the work to make old memories a reality, move on.
3. You just feel lonely: Feeling lonely doesn’t mean you should try to get an ex back. Move on with someone new, and don’t look back. If it’s meant to be, it will be.
